Patient Induction Supply Checklist
- Surgery schedule for the day
- Patient chart/medical records
- Anesthesia monitoring form
- Signed owner authorization papers
- Verify all pre-ops have been performed, reviewed and signed off by surgeon
- Technician assigned to the patient should also review all pre-ops
- Anesthesia machine – See our “Basic Anesthesia Machine Set-Op Checklist”
- Calculator, make sure to calculate all medication doses a minimum of 3 times
- Stethoscope
- Technician assigned to the patient should perform physical examination
- Administer pre-op medication and record: drug name/dose/amount given/route given/time and initial entry
- Canine patients should be walked prior to anesthesia unless contraindicated
- IV catheter supplies
- Clipper with #40 blade
- Scrub/alcohol preparation
- Sterile gloves
- IV catheters (several of the appropriate sizes)
- 3 x 3 gauze pads
- Antibiotic ointment
- Venoset
- Extension set
- T-connector
- IV fluids
- Tape to secure and bandage material
- Bandage scissors
- IV stand
- IV Pump w/charging plug
- Anesthetic drugs for induction and reversing agents if indicated
- Alcohol-cotton ball, to clean IV port prior to administering anesthetic
- Endotracheal tube, several sizes – see our “Endotracheal Tube Article”
- 3cc syringe (cats and toy breed dogs) or 6cc syringe (dogs) to inflate cuff
- Stylette if using a small endotracheal tube
- Viscous Lidocaine and applicator sticks (for cats)
- Sterile lubricant
- 3 x 3 gauze pad
- Mouth gag
- String gauze to tie endotracheal tube in place
- Ophthalmic ointment
- Injectable antibiotics
- Post-op medication, such an analgesic, diuretics, etc.
