Sonogram (G.I., 9/30/10, 1/28/11): “Annie”

History (K. Vasquez RVT): A 15-year-old FS DSH cat with was presented for decreased appetite and lethargy with a history of hypoalbuminemia, hypomagnesemia, hypocalcemia. On physical examination weight loss, pyrexia, dehydration, icterus, and a grade III/VI heart murmur were present. Abnormalities on CBC and serum biochemistry were leukocytosis with a mature neutrophilia, monocytosis, non-regenerative anemia, azotemia, hyperphosphatemia, and hypocalcemia.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

(Remo Lobetti PhD, DECVIM): Prehepatic icterus – IMHA, mycoplasmosis, toxins Post-hepatic icterus – cholecystitis/rupture/bile duct obstruction (neoplasia, pancreatitis, duodenal IBD/neoplasia/foreign body) Renal disease – chronic kidney disease, pyelonephritis Murmur – cardiomyopathy, valve insufficiency, physiology (anemia)
